The samurai and the fisherman: A beautiful story

The story of the samurai and the fisherman is a beautiful story with a surprising lesson. It all started in feudal Japan. There lived a samurai known for his great generosity, especially with people in poverty.

One day he was assigned to work in a nearby village. After he finished, and just as he was about to return home, the samurai saw a fisherman with a very sad expression on his face. He seemed to be crying. He decided to approach him and ask what was wrong.

The fisherman told him that he was about to lose his boat because he owed money to a local shop owner. Since he had no means to pay him, the money lender had decided to keep the fisherman’s small boat as a security. But if he lost the boat, the fisherman would not have a job and his family would starve to death.

The samurai listened intently. His noble heart was moved by history. Then he without hesitation pulled money out of his pocket and gave it to the fisherman. “It’s not a gift ,” he said. He did not think giving away was a good thing because it promoted laziness. “This is a loan. In a year I will return and you will return the money. I do not want to charge you any interest. ” The fisherman could not believe it. He promised the samurai that he would do whatever it took to pay him back, and he thanked him immensely for this gesture. However, this story had only just begun.

The Samurai’s return

After a year, the samurai returned to the village. He really thought the fisherman would pay him back what he lent him and was very excited to see him again. He hoped the fisherman had improved his living conditions. At this point, the story of the samurai and the fisherman took an unexpected turn.

When the samurai started looking for the fisherman at the place they had met the year before, he saw no one. He asked the other fishermen nearby, but they could not give him an answer. Eventually, one of them was able to show him where the fisherman he was looking for lived. The samurai went there.

Upon his arrival, the samurai could only find the fisherman’s wife and children. They promised him that they had no idea where the debtor was. However, the samurai realized that they were lying. The fisherman hid so as not to repay his debt. Yet the story of the samurai and the fisherman does not end there.

The unexpected happens

The samurai became very angry. He thought that his generosity paid for with theft was completely unacceptable. Then he started looking for the fisherman everywhere he could think of until he found him next to a cliff. The man hid.

When the fisherman saw the samurai, he was frightened. He could only say that the fishing season had been terrible and that he had no money to pay him back. “Ungrateful,” shouted the samurai. “I helped you when you needed it most! And that’s how you choose to pay me? ” The fisherman was speechless. The samurai, drowned in rage, took out his sword to punish the fisherman.

“Sorry,” said the fisherman. “If your hand is raised, limit your temper; If your temper raises, limit your hand. ” The samurai stopped. This humble man was right. His rage disappeared, and they were able to agree that the fisherman would repay the debt in a year.

The moral story of the samurai and the fisherman

When the samurai came home, still shocked by what had happened to the fisherman, he saw the light coming out of his room. That was wierd. It was already very late. Slowly and carefully he went to the bed and found his wife lying on it. He realized that there was someone next to her. He went closer and saw that it was another samurai.

He immediately drew his sword. He slipped against the bed to do something wrong when he suddenly remembered the fisherman’s words. “If your hand is raised, limit your temper; If your temper raises, limit your hand. ” Then he took a deep breath, pulled out of the room and just shouted, “I’m here!”

His wife came out to greet him happily. Behind her, the samurai’s mother walked out of the room as well. “See who’s here!” said his wife. She had been afraid to be home alone, and then she had asked her mother-in-law to keep her company. The samurai’s mother had put on her son’s clothes in case a thief broke in. If a thief saw her, they would think she was a warrior and would leave them alone.

The story of the samurai and the fisherman ended a year later. The samurai visited the fishing village again. The fisherman was waiting for him. He had money, plus interest, as it had been a good year for him. The samurai hugged him. “Keep that money ,” he said. “You do not owe me anything. I’m the one who owes you. ”
