Five Habits That People With Depression Hide

Not everyone who suffers from depression seems sad or isolated. Laughing a lot or being too friendly, for example, can be a sign that someone is hiding their depression.
Five habits that people with depression hide

Concealed depression is a condition in which sufferers do not manifest typical symptoms of depression, but instead other patterns and traits that they hide behind. In fact, the first person to overlook this situation of depression is the one who suffers from it. They do it to push their pain back.

This process of depression in which one tries to encapsulate or beautify the symptoms can be both unconscious or pre-conscious (pre-conscious). It is not that the person will consciously pretend not to feel anything. Hiding depression is a way to defend yourself against pain that they may not feel able to handle.

Hiding their problems from themselves and others is not positive at all. On the contrary, sometimes it just makes matters worse. Here are five signs that a person with depression is hiding it.

1. They are obsessively social

People with depression who hide it will not be alone because they do not like to spend time for themselves. If they do not have people around them, the emotions come to the surface more easily.

This is why they tend to be obsessively social. They are always looking for ways to organize gatherings and other social events. If they do not succeed, they only call their relatives, friends or colleagues. Furthermore, they will not be alone because loneliness forces them to think.

2. They exaggerate in emphasizing their well-being

This exaggerated behavior is usually an attempt to compensate for the fact that they feel absolutely awful. People with latent depression tend to boast of their presumed well-being. If you ask them how they are, they will not say good, but instead “great” or “fantastic”.

As we have mentioned, this is an unconscious form of compensation. Not only that, but it is almost an attempt to convince themselves and others how “wonderful” they feel. It is a wall to ward off discomfort and keep depression at bay.

3. People with depression repeatedly talk about the past

In latent depression, as in many forms of depression, the past plays a leading role. Therefore, people with latent depression often talk about past problems with others. Although they can talk about these issues cheerfully, they often do.

Not letting the past lie in the past is an indicator that they have unresolved problems. This past could have been positive or negative, it does not matter. The thing is, they continue to relive what they have already experienced every time they talk about it. They are strongly attached to the past and have not been able to let go of it.

4. Living with depression and eating disorders

These eating disorders are always indicators of a kind of emotional discomfort, especially if the changes in appetite are not temporary, but permanent, and even become clearer as time goes on. These habits can be eating less than normal, more than normal, or eating in an anarchist way.

Sometimes people with latent depression do not stop eating or start eating more, but instead show disgust for certain foods or have frequent digestive problems. Some people with latent depression also become obsessed with eating something special or eating a certain way.

5. They can not sleep peacefully

As with eating, people with latent depression often have sleep deprivation that can manifest itself in various ways. They also usually do not get enough sleep or sleep too much.

Occasionally, other behaviors such as being up at night, difficulty sleeping in a horizontal position, and having bad dreams manifest themselves.

All these indicators must be considered carefully. Depression is more than a state of sadness or hidden denial. Thus, it is a condition that must be considered by well-trained professionals.
